So every new parent has one of these moments... a moment when you are so tired that you have to choose whether you are going to laugh hysterically or break down and cry.
This was definitely one of those moments.
Yesterday, Wade and I were on the couch because it was dinnertime for him. We think he has reflux, so I tried feeding him as upright as possible. I was so tired of changing his outfits for what seems 15 times a day that I stripped him down to a diaper only as he sat in my lap.
Time goes by and I move the burp rag from under the edge of his leg, so I could wipe off the first round of projectile spit up. And what do I see? Something yellow and green on the burp rag. This one was clean, no stains or anything on it, before this feeding. Wade is not finished eating, so I blow it off and decide to take care of it after he had finished.
Wade was finished eating... I picked him up and notice that my pants also have the greenish yellow substance all over them! I examined his diaper and quickly screamed to Jason in the kitchen to start running water in the kitchen sink because there had been a BLOWOUT!!!!
I knew that wipes weren't going to cut it. A complete hosedown would be necessary. So we start hosing him off in the sink. (Jason comments that he thinks Wade's diaper weighs about a pound!) I dry him off as quickly as possible - the little man HATES being cold - trying to avoid a meltdown from Wade. I scoop him up and move him to the changing table.
Guess what happens next... ?
I'm quickly getting out a new diaper when all of a sudden, a warm golden stream of liquid coats my son's face and clothes, all of our clean diapers, the entire hutch area, as well as the changing pad cover I had just changed 30 minutes prior to all of this. Pee was EVERYWHERE!! And Wade was NOT happy... he was angry. Poor little guy screamed so loud that his face and body turned a bright shade of violet red. Jason attempted to calm Wade down as we both scrambled to clean up the area and get a fresh diaper on him. Success in that department led to failure in another... Wade had spit up all over himself again due to the intense screaming and crying. I think we are going to need another outfit!
Needless to say, it wasn't a happy time for anyone. As we were in the moment, we had a choice to make: laugh or cry. It would have been easier to cry, but it was better for our souls to laugh. So we laughed and laughed and laughed.
Reflecting back on yesterday's happenings, I wish I had pictures of this moment. Unfortunately, there are none.
So you have a choice... laugh or cry. Laughing is always a better choice!
